Christophe Galtier has been sacked as Paris Saint-Germain manager.

The 56-year-old was relieved of his duties just days after lifting the Ligue 1 title.

PSG finished just a point clear of Lens to retain their Ligue 1 crown, but failed to win the Coupe de France or advance beyond the round of 16 in the Champions League.

Galtier was only appointed to the role a year ago, to replace Mauricio Pochettino in the hotseat.

PSG were eliminated from the Champions League at the Round of 16 stage by Bayern Munich while they also fell short in the Coupe de France as they were eliminated by Marseille.

Former Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann is the favourite to replace Galtier.

PSG have never won the Champions League trophy and that the trophy has eluded them has proved to be a source of great frustration to the club hierarchy and fans. They have reached the final of the competition just once, under Thomas Tuchel in 2020.

They fell short against Bayern in that year’s competition and have been unable to replicate that success. They have now been eliminated at the Round of 16 stage for successive seasons and widespread change is expected this summer.

Lionel Messi is leading the list of high-profile exits while Nagelsmann, who eliminated PSG from this season’s Champions League, is likely to be the new man in the dugout. Sporting CP midfielder Manuel Ugarte and Marco Asensio, who has left Real Madrid, are likely to be early signings.
