The 71-year-old Bola Ahmed Tinubu has become the new President of Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria.

Tinubu who will now lead the affairs of the country for the next four years took the oath of office today, Monday, May 29, 2023, at an inauguration ceremony held at Eagle Square, the nation’s capital, Abuja.

“I, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, do solemnly swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and that I will preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. So, help me, God,” the new President swore.

Equally, Kashim Shettima was sworn in as the country’s new vice president.

Tinubu became the president after winning the nation’s February 25 presidential election where he defeated his closest rivals Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President; Peter Obi, and 15 others.

Meanwhile, Atiku, Obi, and some other candidates are yet to congratulate him as they are contesting the outcome of the poll in court.
