A transgender prisoner, Sophie Eastwood, who changed from male to female and now identifies as a baby in Scottish prison said she is afraid she would not survive if moved to a men’s prison.

According to UK Daily Mail on Monday, February 20, 2023, Eastwood, who identifies as a woman started her transitioning journey while in prison in 2017, is being held at Scotland’s only all-female jail, HMP Cornton Vale.

She was once identified as a male named Daniel serving at Dumfries Young Offenders Institution for dangerous driving when he strangled a cellmate, Paul Algie, to death with shoelaces in 2004.

The killer said it was a relief when she was moved to a female prison stating she would have been sexually violated if she was to be in a male prison.

Speaking to Daily record, she said, “The main threat was that I would suffer serious sexual violence. It was a relief to be moved to the female estate where I have felt safe and I’ve gained the trust of fellow prisoners.

‘I think Scottish Prison Service staff manage trans prisoners well but it would be impossible for me to feel safe in a male prison.”

Eastwood, who announced she was a baby last year, now demands that guards hold her hand and also asks for baby food and nappies.
