A camel who attacked and decapitated its owner has been beaten to death by irate villagers.
According to reports, the incident happened in Rajasthan, India on Wednesday, February 8, 2023.
The owner of the camel, identified as Sohanram Nayak, went to rein in the violent animal, and it attacked him throwing him to the ground.
The camel picked its owner by the neck and threw him on the ground, severing his head.
This resulted in the villagers and the victim’s family beating the camel with sticks to calm it down with the fear of hurting another person, which lead to the death of the camel.
According to local reports, the victim’s family members were involved in the beating of the camel. The body of Sohanram Nayak was handed over to his relatives after a post-mortem.
It was gathered that no complaint has so far been made over the killing of the state animal.
Rajasthan, a state in northern India, banned the slaughter and injury of camels in 2015. The crime, outlined in the aptly-named Rajasthan Camel Bill 2015, is punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine.
The bill noted an ‘alarming’ decline in the number of camels in the region in recent years, observing that the camel was ‘an integral part of the desert eco-system of the State’.
