A 46-year-old Nigerian man identified as Ola Habila, and his sister Joy, 30, have been remanded in a correctional centre for allegedly stealing $1,500 which is N700,000 (in local currency) from his wife.

The duo was asked to be remanded in prison according to a ruling of a Magistrates’ Court in Kafanchan Local Government area of Kaduna State, Northwest, Nigeria.

They were charged by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly stealing money belonging to Janet, Habila’s wife

The NSCDC prosecutor, Mr Marcus Audu, told the court that the matter was reported to the corps office by Janet on January 12, 2023.

Audu said the defendants went to the complainant’s room, threw her belongings out, and sent her out of the house following a misunderstanding.

e noted that the defendants were said to have stolen the complainant’s N700, 000 in the process.

The prosecutor added that the complainant reported the matter to the NSCDC, and when summoned, the first defendant refused to make a statement and tried to create a scene at the Corp’s office.

He said in view of this, the defendants were charged with criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, theft, refusing to make statements, and obstructing a public servant from discharge of his function.

According to him, the offences run contrary to sections 58, 333, 270, 108, and 113 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.

However, when the charges were read to the defendants, they both pleaded not guilty.

In his ruling, Magistrate Michael Bawa ordered them to be remanded in a correctional centre.

Bawa thereafter adjourned the matter until February 8, 2023, for a hearing.
